Project description

The overall aim of the network is to provide a service to customers, within and outside the KIC network. Therefore, first the servides that can be delivered by the network should be clearly described. Next the conditions for the use of the network for both internal and external customers are to be clarified, accounting for the possibility to use part of the customer's fee to sustain the Network. Customers can access the network through their local partner who they are most familiar with, who will then redirect them to network manager who will take care of their request. It is the objective to have first service offerings available by month 6, allowing to have first customers from each CLC still in 2016. In particular at the start the customer experiences will be monitored to improve the service, while gradually increasing the portfolio.

A typical request may be to find a pyrometallurgical solution to extract metal value from a residue and to cool the remaining slag in a way that keeps several options open for subsequent valorisation in (construction) materials. This could be achieved through experiments, by modelling, or via a combination of both. For a given customer request, there wil be in general no single perfect solution strategy, though rather a range of solutions. Furthermore, it is possible that in some cases several partners can offer an equivalent solution or that a customer desires the evaluation of a range of solutions, rather than selecting a priori one technology. To tackle these issues, a decision structure will be set up to channel the request through the network in consultation with the customer. Also IP issues will be considered in this procedure. This decision tool is considered a critical factor of success and through the joint meetings in the ZeroWaste network it is intended to learn from each other's experiences.
