Project description
Employees' health, happiness and productivity is a top priority for organizations. Investing in employee development is crucial in this regard. Recent studies identify performance management as a promising management system for fostering employee development in the workplace. Although there is an increasing emphasis on implementing developmental performance management practices, empirical research on their effectiveness remains scarce, despite repeated calls for research. From a practical point of view, it is imperative that the use of developmental performance management practices is grounded in rigorous empirical evidence, especially considering the significant resources organizations invest in performance management. Thus, to make fundamental progress in the field, this project builds on recent calls from the literature to examine how developmental performance management practices affect employees' health, happiness and productivity at work. In this regard, I adopt a multi-stakeholder perspective, examining employee, team, and leader level factors that moderate the effectiveness of these practices. Hence, I can provide organizations with actionable insights on how to optimize the implementation of developmental performance management practices, thereby maximizing their impact on employee health, happiness, and productivity. By means of four studies and a combination of innovative methods, this project aims to break new ground in the field of performance management.
