This project aims at the synthesis of chiral bi- and tricyclic β-lactams as new antibacterial agents and β-lactamase inhibitors. These goals will be achieved by linking β-lactam chemistry to the chemistry of multicomponent reactions, i.e., the Passerini, Ugi and Strecker reaction, on the one hand and to the chemistry of oxiranes on the other.
