Project description
Contemporary opera tends to abandon traditional narratives and breaks the tight bond between the singer and the character. Using musicological and performance analysis in combination with composer interviews, Distorted Characters seeks a thorough understanding of the aspects that disrupt centuriesold genre conventions concerning the relation of music, drama, the character and the singer in opera.
