Project description

The project focuses on the 'golden age' of horticulture in and around Ghent, on the basis of the collections of three botanists. Information about a name can already be found online, the other two certainly deserve further investigation. The proposed project is sufficiently coherent. It builds on previous and ongoing projects, such as the European project ICEDIG at the Meise Garden Agency.
The focus of the first phase is on the inventory and digitization of herbaria from its own collection and archive material from various other collections. The imported metadata are semiautomatically enriched by means of software modules and crowdsourced tools, a method developed by the university research group IDLab and already tested at CEGESOMA. The experiences are shared with the interested public.
In the following phases, the Botanical Garden will continue the project beyond the walls, by making the digital data accessible online via three platforms, a participation project on the Ghent Floralien and a Streetview app that indicates traces of Ghent horticulture in the streets and routes as possible makes
