Project description

The Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics wishes to commission an exploratory study on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with a particular focus on the ethical issues raised by this technology. AI applications in healthcare are developing rapidly in various areas such as diagnostics, treatment, and prevention, but also in hospital management, e.g., for patient scheduling. This raises fundamental questions about responsibility, transparency, patient rights, privacy protection, and fairness in access to care.

The proposed research aims to provide a scientifically based analysis that can support the Committee in further developing its opinions and identifying priority ethical issues. This study is limited to an exploratory phase and also provides a starting point for a survey that medical ethics centers can conduct later to determine their priorities.
