The general aim of this research is to investigate how parenthood is experienced in a rapidly changing world. Do parents today experience a lot of pressure and adopt an intensive parenting ideology? Or do the pleasures of parenthood still outweigh the pains? Through both a literature study and available long-term longitudinal data, it will be examined whether there are historical (generational) changes in parental experiences . In a parallel research line, the role of parents will be studied in one of the greatest parenting challenges of our time: children's screen time. How can parents be positively involved in children's digital media? And can they mitigate the risks associated with frequent and problematic screen use? These questions will be addressed using research with longitudinal and diary designs.
