This proposal requests a size-exclusion chromatograph with light scattering detector for use with polar organic solvents to analyze the molar mass and molar mass distribution of newly synthesized polymers, to replace a 15 year old device that has been running continuously for 15 years and is showing early signs of an upcoming breakdown. The molar mass of polymers is a crucial characteristic that determines many intrinsic properties and, therefore, it is important to accurately determine the molar mass, for which a light scattering detector is indispensable. The requested device will be at the basis of all research in the supramolecular chemistry group that develops and designs advanced functional materials for a wide range of (bio)medical applications based on molecular engineering of the chemical building blocks. The requested device is a high pressure SEC with light scattering detector, allowing to change to green solvents and to significantly reducethe solvent consumption.
