Based on discussions with companies within the manufacturing industry (Flanders Make), it was identified that the New Product Developement (NPD) process within these companies is currently not monitored and supported. After every cycle lesssons learned are identified but these lessons are not applied in future iterations. In this project the NPD process is supported by providing both process-related communications and content-related recommendations. Proces-related recommendations suggest potential next steps and estimated ‘lead’ times. Content-related recommendations capitalize on the knowledge extracted from past process executions and prompts the engineer with information that relates to the content of the engineering activities such as lessons learned, DFMEA related entries, manufacturing guidelines, etc.
