Project description

This project aims at studying in which was Old Babylonian Sippar seals may be considered as expressions of (parts of) their users' identity. Both the textual and iconographical data will be examined on the basis of the unique seal database of the Assyriological department (UGent). The research methodology is centered around families and professional groups which will be reconstructed for the first time in 4,000 years.
