Early 2008 the Belgian divorce law changed from a mutual consent to a unilateral divorce (the so-called no-fault divorce). Using unique Belgian data we identify the different law changes in Belgium and identify their impact on the transfers. In a second study we analyse the determinants of transfers upon divorce with special attention to the degree of self-potential sacrifice.
