Project description

In this project we will connect – literally and figuratively – all current and past research conducted by the Forest & Nature Lab (ForNaLab; www.fornalab.ugent.be) with research locations in the Rodeland area (municipalities of Melle, Gavere, Oosterzele and Merelbeke) where Campus Gontrode (ForNaLab’s home base) is located.

At each stop, information about the research set-up, the results and recommendations for landscape management and design will be provided via a QR code. We will also highlight examples of European valuable nature spots in the area and examples of reconciliation between agricultural needs and natural values. The Rodeland area as a popular attraction for the cyclist with some real nature pearls and various nature-inclusive agricultural projects within the project boundaries is particularly suited for these goals.

This project allows us to present the insights gained in all of these studies to the inhabitants of the Rodeland area, the farmers and nature managers who are active in the region, and the holidaymaker who likes to immerse himself in the wonderful world of scientific research during a bike ride.
