Project description
Many Brits settled, often permanently, in France and Belgium in the period 1815-1914. This project focuses on the poorer sections of the British resident communities, the networks they forged amongst each other, the attachment of these residents to a sense of British/English identity, and their strong focus on politeness as a façade to hide their poverty behind.
