Project description

Emerging critical applications demand networks with more predictable performance such as bounded latency and reliability. Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) solutions are today only offered over wired Ethernet, while standardization efforts in the wireless domain are complex and slow.

UGent has established the openwifi open-source initiative offering the world’s first free and open Linux-compatible full-stack Wi-Fi implementation and extended this platform with unique non-public TSN extensions expanding Ethernet TSN concepts to Wi-Fi.

Via this project, UGent wants to scale up its unique specialized, and customizable Wi-Fi innovation platform by (1) launching a subscription model to attract paying customers and (2) boosting the sales of such subscriptions by proving that more demanding TSN use cases in realistic environments can be supported.
