This research project elaborates on the question why and how different institutional systems contain and

constitute violence, hereby producing diverging outcomes in terms of conflict intensity. This question will be

operationalized through a theoretical and empirically grounded comparative study on four municipalities in

Muslim Mindanao, the Philippines.
