Project description

Together with some 20 other intitutes, the UGent has initiated a project to map the Virgo Cluster, the most nearby galaxy cluster, at infrared and submm wavelengths in the frame of a Herschel Key programme. The goals of this project is to model existing and new data on some 100 elliptical galaxies in the Virgo Cluster with state-of-the-art Monte Carlo radiative transfer simulations. This will allow us to determine the mass, temperature distribution and spatial distribution of the interstellar dust and determine its origine and evolution.
