Projectomschrijving

Carnosine komt in hoge concentraties voor in de menselijke skeletspier. Hoewel het verscheidene functies uitoefent in ander plaatsen in het lichaam, wordt het bijna uitsluitend in de skeletspiercellen gesynthetiseerd door middel van het enzym carnosinesynthase. Dit onderzoeksproject wil de hypothese testen dat de skeletmusculatuur fungeert als opslagplaats en op een gecontroleerde wijze de carnosine transporteert en vrijzet in het interstitium/circulatie.
