Project description

Quality of work is a key challenge that is gaining urgency and is broader than the debate around workable work. While the werkbaarheidsmonitor of the Stichting Innovatie en Arbeid is an important representative and large-scale tool for measuring 'workable work' and has formed the basis for academic and policy analysis around quality of work, there are reasons to review this measurement. After all, the nature of work and work organisation are changing rapidly. This has implications for the quality of work, the factors influencing it and the target groups affected, but also requires adapted or new indicators. Science is not standing still either. Further analyses of what makes high quality work are now possible due to the emergence of new concepts and methodologies in various disciplines. Both the Coalition Agreement of the Flemish Government for 2019-2024 and the Flemish Government's Relance Plan 'Vlaamse Veerkracht' outline the importance of the quality of work for the Flemish economy and society. To promote the quality of work, gaining insight into the various concepts as well as bottlenecks and levers, using a multidisciplinary approach, is crucial. As part of this VIONA project 'Quality of Work', several teams and institutes - KU Leuven, VUB, UGent and IDEWE - are joining forces to work on this issue. In the project, first, an extensive multidisciplinary literature study is conducted based on academic and grey literature, to define the concept of 'quality of work' and identify overlap with related concepts. Based on this literature review and the conceptual framework, indicators are developed and a qualitative and quantitative data collection is done.
