The objectives of this project include:
(1) the collection of accurate epidemiological data on the incidence of suicide attempts and the characteristics of suicide attempters in the (emergency admissions of) General Hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, mobile crisis teams and general practitioners in Flanders by means of LOES (Leidraad Opvang en Evaluatie Suïcidaliteit) and partly the IPEO (Instrument Psychosociale Evaluatie en Opvang), including European positioning. In 2023 (and also partly in 2024) a strong commitment is made to broad implementation of LOES so that by 2023 already many hospitals and other settings are registering with LOES. However, there will still be a number of hospitals in the transition phase working with IPEO and providing data from IPEO (or for part of 2023);
(2) the collection of epidemiological data on the incidence of persons with suicidal thoughts and the characteristics of persons with suicidal thoughts in Flanders through LOES and this through (the emergency departments of) General Hospitals, Psychiatric Hospitals, mobile crisis teams and general practitioners where LOES is already implemented;
(3) mapping and evaluating the patterns of reception in the emergency department of suicide attempters and persons with suicidal thoughts and follow-up care for these patients;
(4) providing policy-relevant information regarding prevention of suicide in general and the reception of suicide attempters and persons with suicidal thoughts and their registration in particular;
