The goal of this research project is to develop a biological nitrogen recovery module that makes it possible to recover nitrogen nutrients from low strength wastestreams and furthermore use them as an alternative slow release nitrogen fertilizer. More specifically it will be examined whether marine nitrate-storing bacteria and diatoms can be implemented in the wastewater treatment to recover nitrate from wastewater.
