Project description

A drastic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is absolutely necessary to counter the catastrophic consequences of excessive climate change. However, the electrification of large-scale production processes in the chemical industry is still in full development. CO2 capture is therefore absolutely necessary in the shorter term. However, the high cost and technological limitations of available CO2 separation technologies hinder their successful and industrial application for CO2 capture/use (CCU).
The overall goal of this project is the development of new and more efficient, sustainable and economically viable technologies for the capture and separation of CO2.
The experimental setups developed in the sprint cSBO project CAPTIN (HBC.2019.0109) will be used in the present follow-up project CAPTIN-2 to further investigate these new concepts. The developed models will be used for the evaluation of the new technologies in terms of energy efficiency. The main challenges identified in CAPTIN will be addressed: combination of absorption and stripping by coupling 2 vortex units; increasing the efficiency of the inductive heating process; improve adsorption energy absorption; optimization of the process cycle; evaluation of the effect of operating conditions; process control
