Project description

This project proposes the replacement and upgrade of our outdated HS-SPME-GC-MS system. Due to the growing interest for analyses and the increasing focus on volatile metabolites in food, intestinal contents, and feces, the current setup no longer meets requirements for accuracy, reproducibility, and capacity. The new installation with automated and highly controlled injection robot with SPME Arrow technology is essential for our research. Applications span the entire food chain: from nutrition and gut health in farm animals to food quality and the formation of toxic compounds during gastrointestinal digestion in humans. The technique is also invaluable in studies on nutrition and gut health in companion and exotic (zoo) animals. In addition to targeted analysis of known metabolites, this infrastructure also enables exploration of yet undetected volatile components in biological matrices.
