Project description

This project includes research in two different areas. First, research within equine cardiology (Equine Cardioteam Ghent) focuses on improved diagnosis and treatment of valvular regurgitation and cardiac arrhythmias in horses. This includes new techniques for echocardiography, research into the pathophysiology of mitral regurgitation in horses, and in vitro and in vivo models for testing antiarrhythmic drugs.

Second, research on veterinarian-client communication focuses on the challenges that veterinarians face in practice. Ongoing research focuses on the communication between veterinarian and client about the use of antibiotics. This project also includes a pilot intervention on responsible antibiotic use in veterinary practices for companion animals. Other research topics include communication in challenging situations in veterinary medicine, such as euthanasia or obesity in pets.
