Project description

The fight against sexual violence is a priority of the Government of the DRC in the country's reconstruction process and the fight against poverty. This mission project aims to realize the aspirations of collaboration between the Catholic University of Bukavu (UCB) and the International Centre for Sexual and Reproductive Health (ICRH) at the University of Ghent in the field of research and training on sexual violence. The academic objective of the project is to build capacity and research skills and training in sexual violence. The overall development objective is to strengthen the capacity of local actors involved in prevention programs and assistance to victims of sexual violence. The direct beneficiaries of the project are 1) the teachers and students of medicine and law faculties at UBC and 2) local institutions and organizations involved in sexual violence prevention programs and victim assistance. The main activities of the project include an identification mission in Bukavu and a formulation mission in Ghent. The identification report will be used as the main reference document a collaborative project formulation workshop to be held in Ghent.
