Blue energy includes offshore wind energy, a relatively mature sector in full expansion, as well as relatively new developments in wave and tidal energy. Several Flemish companies play an important role in this growth sector and the scientific community has a considerable knowledge base. To further expand this position, continued innovation and technological development are required. However, a framework and appropriate infrastructure to carry out tests in a marine environment are currently lacking. This demonstration phase is essential to strengthen the knowledge base and give all interested SMEs the opportunity to come up with innovative and industry-interesting products. The project responds to this need and aims to remove this barrier in the innovation process. The aim here is to create a living lab where testing is possible in real life sea conditions, with Ostend as a base.
