Project description

Urological tumors account for over 20% of all malignancies in the Belgian population. Most prevalent are prostate cancer, bladder cancer and kidney cancer. I am currently running several clinical trials to improve diagnostics and treatment in urological tumors. The PODRACING trial is a randomized controlled trial investigating the benefit of a pre-operative 3D perfusion kidney model for planning and executing robot-assisted partial nephrectomy. The PAPRICA-1 trial is a single-arm phase II trial investigating the use of prophylactic onlay resorbable mesh during robot-assisted radical cystectomy with ileal conduit. Goal of this mesh is to reduce the risk of parastomal hernia in these patients. Furthermore, we are actively seeking funding to develop a urinary biomarker (together with Prof. Jo Vandesompele) for bladder cancer. Maintaining these different projects require continuous funding.
