My work aims to deepen the understanding of (non-)migration dynamics and how to maximize their positive impacts. My research plan draws on my previous work and sets up new research lines which address important research gaps. Specifically, it consists of two major research lines related to (i) immobility, addressing overlooked factors that deter migration and their impacts, and (ii) the climate change-migration-health(care) nexus which I plan to develop further in the coming five years, primarily through established and new (inter)national collaborations which I have always found rewarding. These projects will revise traditional migration frameworks, emphasizing retain and repel factors and analyzing the role of different adaptation strategies. It will also investigate the local development implications of involuntary immobility and contribute to the global effort to enhance health equity among climate-related migrants and receiving communities.
