Benefits for Belspo-project:
- Expertise of the Indian group with sugar chemistry: one of their experts in the suger chemistry, Dr. Yogesh Yadav, has contributed significantly to the ongoing BELSPO)project as a post-doc for over one year (2010-2011), first as an Erasmus Mundus fellow, later paid on the IAP. He explored the synthesis of a novel sugar-based scaffold and synthesized a library of potential transglycosylase inhibitos. The experience of the Indian groep in sugar chemistry is highly valuable for the BELSPO-project.
- Opportunity to screen the synthesized scaffold library also in India for interfence with the LEDGF / p75-IN interaction, resulting in an extra valorization dimension in the field of anti-HIV drugs.
- Opportunity to include also the compounds synthesized by the Indian partner for screening against beta-lactamase and transglycosylase inhibiting activity, potentially leading to novel antibiotics.

Benefit for DST-project:
- Expertise of the Belgian group with transition metal chemistry (novel imidate ligands) is highly useful for scaffold synthesis.
- Opportunity to screen the synthesized scaffold library also in Belgium for beta-lactamase and transglycosylase inhibiting activity, resulting in an extra valorization dimension.
- Opportunity to include also the compounds synthesized by the Belgian partner for screening against inhibition of the LEDGF / p75-IN interaction, potentially leading to an anti-HIV drug.
- The Belgian group has experience with microwave-assisted synthesis, and has a close collaboration with the group of prof. E. Van der Eycken (KULeuven), who is an authority in this field.

Regular scietific discussions of involved scientists will be neccessary to decide which side chains to introduce on the respective scaffolds.
PhD-students and post-docs of our groups will be actively involved in the networking, in order to broaden their scientific horizon. This should also result in future collaboration via common projects.
