Main Research activities: The main objectives of this research line are: to map the pattern and quality of drug utilization in older patients across different care settings and the association with patient-related outcomes; to assess the quality of prescribing and to estimate to what extent the prescriptions are tailored to the actual medical needs and characteristics of older patients; to investigate how the organization of an institution influences the relationship between drug utilization and medical needs; to use prescribing indicators for the identification of prescriptions that are not in line with international and national prescribing guidelines; and to contribute to the organization and implementation of a better prescribing policy for older people. The research group has extensive experience in conducting both epidemiological studies and clinical trials and has a large network.
