Project description

1. To analyze dairy value chain in order to identify and prioritize chain integration constraints and come up with strategies for leveraged interventions.



  • Constraints to diary value chain integration identified and documented.
  • Available opportunities that can be exploited identified and documented.
  • Strategies for intervention for value chain integration identified.


2. To assess factors influencing dairy farmers‟ milk sales decision and access to alternative milk market outlet choices.



  • Determinants of dairy farmers‟ access to different milk markets identified.
  • Different milk markets and outlets and their incentives/or disincentives analysed and documented.


3. To identify the determinants of participation decision and level of participation of farmers and other chain actors in dairy producer or marketing associations/cooperatives.



  • Role of associations/cooperatives in dairy production identified.
  • Factors that influence dairy value chain actors to join associations/cooperatives identified and documented.
  • Strategies for improving on the dairy associations/cooperatives identified.


4. To identify determinants of processed and unprocessed milk consumption.



  • Consumers‟ perception towards processed milk and milk products assessed.
  • Demand for processed milk and milk products assessed.
  • Role of milk processing plants in dairy value chain integration identified.
