Dr. Ruben Korsten is a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Structural Fire Engineering Team (leading the law and economics work package for the AFireTest project, more info here: https://lnkd.in/eBAMNCG3) and a teaching assistant and researcher at the Center of Advanced Studies in Law and Economics (CASLE) at Ghent University Law School, Belgium. He graduated law “cum honore” and obtained his master degree in Private Law (LL.M) at the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). Ruben Korsten also holds master degrees in Law and Economics (Msc./LL.M.) from the Indira Ghandi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai (India), Hamburg University (Germany) and the University of Bologna (Italy). In 2023, he completed his PhD in Law and Economics at Ghent University and since 2025 he is pursuing a PD at the same university. He was a visiting scholar at the Pontifical Xavierian University, Bogota (Colombia) and Loyola University, Baltimore (MD, US).
Besides his activities for Ghent University, he is a legal counsel at the Colruyt Group (a Belgium-based retail group), with a primary focus on matters pertaining to competition. He also offers policy advice as a law and economics consultant.
