Bio
I work as an associate professor at the Department of Educational Studies of Ghent University where I lead the research group Culture & Education. I studied Art History and Comparative Cultural Studies and obtained a PhD in Educational Sciences with a dissertation on the rhetorical and narrative turn in education. My fields of expertise are: the rhetoric of cultural literacy, the pedagogical dimensions of culture, the societal role of cultural institutions and the ethnographic turn in the arts. I am lecturer-in-charge for the BA courses Anthropology and Culture & Education, the MA course Cultural Studies and the academic teacher training course Culture, Media and Education. I am an Associate Editor of the academic journal Critical Arts. I served as the president of the Rhetoric Society of Europe (RSE) and as Board member of the International Association for Cultural Studies (ACS). I am currently the president of the Kenneth Burke Society and of the Flemish Reading Foundation (Iedereen Leest). I received the KBS Emerging Scholar Award at the 9th triennial conference of the Kenneth Burke Society. I was a visiting scholar at the universities of Bath (UK), Stirling (UK), British Columbia (Ca) and Luxembourg (Lux). I have currently a strong focus on setting up research collaboration with the Global South.
