Bio
Since 2006, Bruno has been involved in offshore Oil & Gas and Renewable energy projects worldwide, including several Joint Industry Research Projects to improve geotechnical design practices. He has a strong interest in multi-disciplinary approaches for the design of offshore structures. In 2019, he was appointed as Visiting Professor for Offshore Geotechnics at the Geotechnical Institute of UGent (UGGI). In parallel to his activities at UGent, Bruno pursued a PhD in offshore wind research at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In 2023, he defended his PhD in Engineering Sciences on soil-structure interaction for offshore wind monopile foundations. In 2025, he was appointed as Assistant Professor at UGent. He is responsible for the Offshore Foundations course and supports the other geotechnical courses in the curriculum. His research interests include monopile soil-structure interaction, the influence of geotechnical properties of backfill on cable-soil interaction and the application of data-driven methods to geotechnical design. He is developing the laboratory infrastructure required for dynamic and cyclic testing of soil and 1g model testing of soil-structure interaction.
