Bio
As a researcher in the group of Prof. Linclau, I investigate the synthesis of (poly)fluorinated monosaccharides. Ultimately, these will be coupled with other (fluorinated) monosaccharides by means of chemical and enzymetic glycosylation, in order to obtain (poly)fluorinated analogues of naturaly occuring glycans. The ultimate goal is to analyze the affinity and selectivity in protein binding of these and compare with the naturally occuring oligosaccharide. As such, the power of (poly)deoxyfluorination to tune affinity and selectivity of glycans in protein binding can be proven with potential application in diagnostic lateral flow tests.
I performed my Master thesis within the group of Prof. Winne where we aimed at developing a new method for dearomative cycloadditions. Subsequently, as the final part of my Master education, I conducted an internship at Janssen Pharmaceutica in Beerse. Afterwards, I worked for one year in industry at Ecosynth after which I shifted to an academic carreer.
