Description
The research group ‘Teacher Education and Professional Development’ (LOPO) conducts research on the education and professional development of student teachers, teachers and teacher educators working in different contexts (i.e. teacher education, primary education, secondary education) and in different phases of their careers (i.e. pre-service, novice, experienced).The research conducted focuses mainly on student teachers’, teachers’, and teacher educators’ learning processes, the factors that affect these learning processes, and possible outcomes of these learning processes. All kind of research methodologies are implemented, including a strong focus on intervention studies. The research group is characterised by four major research lines: (1)Instructional strategies in teacher education and training didactics, (2) Support and guidance of beginning teachers, (3) Professional development of teachers and teacehr educators, and (4) Technology in education and teacher education. The research lines are situated within international challenges and gaps the field of teacher education and professional development is confronted with. The research lines are further complementary with the work of the other research groups of the Department of Educational Studies at Ghent University.
