The Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies (HPIMS) is a research centre that brings together all researchers in medieval studies at Ghent University, across different faculties and departments. The institute fosters interdisciplinary research into the medieval period and advances knowledge exchange and collaboration between the different fields of study, as well as with societal stakeholders and the general public. Fundamental critical research of original source materials is the core business, but HPIMS also houses expertise in ‘digital humanities’. Apart from supporting the many research and outreach initiatives of its members, the institute also annually organizes the Medieval Seminar Series with lectures, seminars and an Autumn School. The HPIMS (core group) is a Ghent University 'Interdisciplinary Consortium for Societal Impact' (IDC).
