Description
Glycodirect aims to develop new enzymes for the synthesis of special carbohydrates and derivatives. Carbohydrates have gained somewhat of a bad reputation but many of them are essential for human health (e.g. immunostimulants) and can find applicationin a wide range of industrial sectors (e.g. prebiotics in food, osmolytes in cosmetics, scaffolds in pharma,...). To enable their production and study, we create tailor-made biocatalysts using the latest strategies in protein engineering, combining in vitro techniques (directed evolution) with computational tools (modeling, docking). The ultimate goal is to develop scalable processes that are both cost-effective and eco-friendly.
