The HISSTER database provides a selection of mortality and cause-of-death statistics for all municipalities and districts in Belgium. The selected indicators are derived from unpublished archival sources. They offer solid information on natural population movements (annual deaths and births since 1841, including details on legitimate and illegitimate births and stillbirths), the age structure of the population, mortality by age, and causes of death (for the years 1900, 1910, 1930, and 1947), each broken down by gender (2,710 municipalities, 2,696 variables).
