Healthy Ageing

Description

GRAY stands for Ghent University Research for Aging Young and brings together expertise on promoting healthy ageing from a wide range of disciplines at Ghent University.

This interdisciplinary consortium brings together expertise on the biology of ageing, health promotion, healthy behaviour (exercise, nutrition, mental well-being and cognitive behaviour), geriatrics, environments that encourage healthy ageing, and the use of adaptive technologies in the field of ageing.

What exactly is meant by “healthy ageing”? What it certainly does not mean is striving for an ever longer lifespan. The goal is not to live longer per se, but to live longer in good health, so that everyone can do the things they value for as long as possible. This goes beyond healthy eating and plenty of exercise; issues such as loneliness, mobility and being meaningful to society also play an important role. There are many factors that influence how you age. This is also reflected on the GRAY website, in the varied list of projects.
