Suicidal behaviour is a widespread and complex social problem with a major impact on those who attempt suicide, but also on their loved ones. We are committed to suicide prevention by encouraging the results of research to have an impact. This gives professionals, loved ones and individuals themselves the tools they need to take timely action.
Ghent University coordinates the VLESP, the Flemish Expertise Centre for Suicide Prevention. VLESP is a partnership between the Suicide Research Unit at Ghent University (EZO) and the Centre for Suicide Prevention (CPZ). Since 2019, the Working Group on Moving Forward, Care after a Suicide Attempt and the support function for suicide prevention work at the Centres for Mental Health Care have also become part of VLESP.
VLESP is the point of contact for all informational questions about suicide, suicide prevention and postvention, and mental health promotion. In addition, VLESP also acts as an advisory body for the Flemish Government and organisations working in the field of suicide prevention and postvention.
