Description

Research into language teaching at Ghent University

The research conducted by the “Language, Learning, Innovation” research group currently focuses on three main themes, which are also studied in relation to each other in certain studies.

The first line of research focuses on language and language teaching. This line covers topics such as reading comprehension, reading motivation and reading promotion, writing instruction, etc.

A second line of research focuses on the study of self-regulated learning. This line of research addresses both the problem of mapping (“measuring”) self-regulated learning in pupils and students and promoting it in educational contexts. This line focuses on compulsory education (in particular primary education) and higher education as research contexts.

Finally, a third line of research focuses on innovation. More specifically, it concerns the implementation and evaluation of innovative methodologies and working methods in education. The emphasis is on research into peer and student tutoring. Both impact research and process-oriented research into the underlying dynamics and interactions during tutoring are central.
