Archaeology: Middle Ages

Description

Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies (HPIMS)

The Pirenne Institute brings together all researchers at Ghent University who study the medieval world. We transcend the boundaries between academic disciplines and pay particular attention to heritage and the dialogue between past and present.
Our researchers come from a wide variety of fields: archaeology, philosophy, geology, geography, history, information technology, art sciences, law, regional studies, linguistics and literature. We study texts, languages, objects, landscapes... using both classical methods of interpretation and cutting-edge technologies.
We focus on regional and international themes and are interested in the relationships between cultures, languages and religions: from Western Europe, through the Slavic, Byzantine and Islamic worlds, to India and China.
